....Mit COLOURFUL CONCERT bekommt das Publikum einen tiefen Einblick in das prall gefüllte Repertoiretäschchen der vier Brüder. Soll es eher was vom Neuen, Wilden, Drüberkomponierten in erfrischendem Hanke Style sein oder lieber das Original, ganz klassisch klassisch? Je nach Anlass und Publikum wird das Repertoire für jedes einzelne Konzert neu zusammengestellt.
"Wir wollen Brücken bauen zwischen hochwertiger Kunstmusik und dem sogenannten "easy-listening"", meinen die Brüder, "wir möchten Klassik ins Jetzt holen und ihr eine neue, zeitgemäße Deutung geben." Genau damit begeistern die HANKE BROTHERS sowohl arrivierte Klassikliebhaber als auch neue, junge Besucher.
Unter "Neukomponiertem" finden sich in COLOURFUL CONCERT Stücke aus dem BIG BROJEKT von Igudesman, de Marco, Boehme, Hanke, aber auch Bearbeitungen von Altbekanntem in neuem HANKE Style: Chopin’s e-Moll Prelude erklingt als Tango, Jo Knümanns "Rumänisch" ist Salonmusik in Csardas-Richtung, Vivaldi erklingt recomposed in minimal style, "La Follia variations" werden im Stile von Corelli und Scarlatti begonnen und steigern sich bei den HANKE BROTHERS in ein Furioso immer verrückterer Variationen ("Follia" bedeutet "Wahnsinn").
Gerne variieren die Brüder bei COLOURFUL CONCERT auch die Besetzungen: So werden für ein DUO komponierte Stücke plötzlich von allen vier Brüdern gespielt. Gleichzeitig kann man Originalwerke wie für Tuba und Klavier von Mike Forbes hören, die die Tuba in ein ganz neues Licht rücken – von romantischem bis filmmusikalischem Klang auf der Tuba, groß und rockig.
Natürlich vergessen die Brüder nie, wo ihre eigentlichen musikalischen Wurzeln liegen. Je nach Anlass und Publikum fällt der Anteil von "klassisch Klassischem" in COLOURFUL CONCERT mal mehr und mal weniger fett aus. "Wir sehen dann das Leuchten in den Augen der arrivierteren Zuhörer, sobald sie bekannte Stücke wie etwa von Rachmaninoff, Brahms und anderen Zeitgenossen der Romantik hören und sie sind plötzlich offen dafür, uns auch in unbekannte Gefilde der Musik zu folgen", so David Hanke.
Mit HANKE BROTHERS & friends, einer Spielart von COLOURFUL CONCERT, wird das Geschehen auf der Bühne noch um einen Zacken vielfältiger. Musikalische Gäste und Brüder im Herzen kommen dazu, bereichern das Programm, es wird gejamt, gecrosst, gegroovt.
"Wie erwartet unerwartet" – Vor Überraschungen ist man bei Konzerten der Brüder nie gefeit. Die Grenzen an Stilen und Epochen und Besetzungen verschwimmen, jedes Stück wird besonders, einzigartig, wird zu einem Solitair reinsten Hörgenusses – ob als pure Klangschönheit oder als pulsierender Groove.

“We want to build bridges between high-brow art music and so-called ‘easy-listening,’” say the brothers. “We’d like to pull classical music into the here and now and give it a new, contemporary meaning.” And it is just that which allows the HANKE BROTHERS to delight established classical music lovers as well as new, young audience members.
In COLOURFUL CONCERT, you’ll find “newly composed” pieces from the BIG PROJEKT by Igudesman, de Marco, Boehme and Hanke, but also reworkings of old favorites in a new HANKE style: Chopin’s E Minor Prelude sounds like a tango, Jo Knümann’s “Rumänisch” is salon music with a Csardas flair, Vivaldi is recomposed in a minimal style and “La Follia variations” begin in the style of Corelli and Scarlatti and are enhanced at the hands of the HANKE BROTHERS into a fury of increasingly mad variations. The brothers love to vary the line-up on COLOURFUL CONCERT. A piece composed as a duet may suddenly be played by all four brothers. At the same time you can hear original works, like those composed for tuba and piano by Mike Forbes, which present the instrument in a completely new light – from romantic to film music sounds on the tuba, massive and rocking.
Of course, the brothers never forget their musical roots. Depending upon the occasion and the audience, the portion of “classically classical” in COLOURFUL CONCERT is sometimes larger, sometimes smaller. “We see the audience’s eyes light up as soon as they hear well known pieces by Rachmaninoff, Brahms and other contemporaries of the romantic era in an unusual interpretation and they are suddenly open to following us into unknown realms of music as well,” says David Hanke.
With HANKE BROTHERS & friends, a version of COLOURFUL CONCERT, the happenings on the stage become a bit more varied. Musical guests and “brothers at heart” join in, enriching the program. They jam, they cross-over, they groove.
